Lampang

We stopped off for a couple of nights in lampang on the way up to Chiang Mai to get off the tourist trail. Its a lovely quiet little town and perfect for not doing much in. and thats what we did. Haf dinner out the first night,  spent the next day wandering around and had a night in with some cheap beer and a pot noodle.

sukhothai

Went to sukhothai today, the founding city of siam. We got on the bikes again and set off round the ruins, except this time there was no town inbetween them as tge place has been made a world heritage sight. It was boiling hot and much bigger than we thought but we made it round, we even climbed the biggest hill to see a big buddha and get a good view. Sweated buckets but it was well worth it.

phitsanulok

Not much to say about this place, it was only a base for our daytrip to sukhothai. Our first night there was the first time we got lost when we were looking for a 70s bar. We walked for ages, its not a tourist city at all so it wasnt very well signed. Anyway we didn't find it and I had a sulk because I wanted kfc and the Internet was shit. Next day we went to sukhothai but when we got back we tried again and found Woodstock at last, one road further than we'd gone before.  It was full of locals so we just chilled out outside listening to a couple of local bands and getting our drinks topped up by thai girls in tiny dresses.

lopburi

Lopburi is known as the city of monkeys and it really is. We werent expecting to see any until we visited the ruins where they live but about 5 mins in on our way to the hostel we saw a couple chilling on the phone wires. Our hostel was the worst weve had so far, shitty fan and loose wires, but for the money we couldn't complain, and it was better than where we were gonna stay, which we found out on tripadvisor had bedbugs a few days before we got there. The next morning we got up early to go see the monkeys and they were everywhere. On the way to the ruins one webt for my bag which shat me up and when we got there there were at least a hundred. But there were even more at the monkey shrine where people went to make offerings, to feed them, and they even had there own pool. On our way out a bunch of thais stopped us to practice there English which was not great and they filmed us asking us questions like what did we eat to get so big. Anyway after that we had some food and went to bed before leaving for phitsanulok in the morning.

Ayuthaya

First stop our journey north was Ayuthaya, the previous capital of Thailand. The city is built around a whole load of ruins and wats that we explored on our bikes. It was touch and go at first but with a little moral support we got going and we should all be very proud of jess. Our guesthouse itself was the best so far. Run by an ancient thai lady it was an old wooden thing with a wooden whaddoyoucall it going out onto a lotus pond with lizards bats and all kinds of bird and frog noises.
